Technique of the Week – Collar Drag
This week’s technique is the Collar Drag takedown from the seated position. The collar drag is a dynamic and effective way to off-balance your opponent and initiate a takedown. From the seated position, start by gripping your opponent’s collar with one hand into the collar, making sure to maintain a strong, controlled grip. You’ll use the collar grip to pull them off balance while simultaneously shifting your body to the side, pulling them towards you and off their base. The key is to make your opponent’s posture unstable by dragging them forward and to the side, which opens up opportunities to either complete the takedown or transition into another dominant position. Focus on timing and precision to avoid getting countered, and remember, the collar drag is a powerful technique that works well when combined with strong grips and quick movement.
